Abstract

In the metaverse, antenna design for our augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) products is facing unprecedented performance challenges from lightweighted, stylish, and personalized mechanics requirements from industrial design as well as multifunction, multiband radio system requirements to support metaverse use cases. In the history of antenna design, challenges often come with opportunities from emerging technologies. In this article, we share our observations in the last 20 years on how antenna engineers continuously adopted new technologies to make the impossible possible, inspire newly graduated students how to seize the most recent and powerful artificial intelligence (AI) engines to make their upcoming career more successful, and provide our own example on how Meta built virtual industry and university collaboration to foster AI application in the area of antenna design.
