Nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis is a rare hamartoma. It is manifested as solitary or multiple lesions of various sizes that can generate aesthetic imperfections for patients. Histologically it shows mature ectopic adipocytes between the collagen fibers of the papillary dermis. With this case report we intend to describe the clinical, dermatoscopic and histological characteristics that guide the dermatologist to achieve a correct diagnosis of this uncommon condition. CLINICAL CASE: An 18-year-old male patient in who the diagnosis of nevus lipo matosus cutaneous superficialis was established. Since the patient was bothered by rubbing lesions with clothing, partial resection of the highest lesions was ordered with symptom relief. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis is offered by esthetic reasons because it is an indolent lesion; however, it tends to increase in size and occasionally may be ulcerated secondary to traumatism or ischemia.
