Abstract

Currently, the different types of existing families are a reality, with the fact that there are single-parent mothers as a result of gender violence as a group that suffers exclusion processes in many aspects of daily life. The aim of this article is to make visible, conceptualise and characterise the group made up of single-parent families resulting from gender violence, identifying the response of the institutions in terms of specific policies and services. To do so, we will analyse the situation of single-parent families through the voice of the mothers themselves, investigating the elements and situations that can lead these families to social exclusion. The research methodology is qualitative, using 10 semi-structured interviews with single-parent mothers resulting from gender violence, 3 interviews with daughters and 2 professionals in the socioeducational field and an ad hoc questionnaire answered by 45 mothers in this situation. The results show the need to address this problem from new frameworks of action that include changes in political, legal and socioeducational aspects.
