Abstract

The article presents a historical overview of food animal veterinary medicine practice in the U.S. It explores the different changes in the veterinary medicine and food animal agriculture from the 18th century through the 20th century and the impact of the global economic status and political uncertainties on veterinary education. Also discussed are the efforts of food animal veterinarians in meeting the society's demands for safe animal products.
