Abstract
The Higuchi plot has been used to evaluate the assocn. of phenol with various proton acceptors. When the ratio of the concn. of phenol to that of proton acceptor was high, the NMR chem. shift data suggest the presence of n:1 proton donor-acceptor assocs. in addn. to a 1:1 complex. At low concn. ratio, the 1:1 assoc. is solvated by acceptor mols. The chem. shift of the hydrogen bonded O-H proton has been found to be dependent on both the temp. and the concn. of the proton acceptor. A linear correlation exists between the logarithm of the assocn. const. and the solvatochromic parameters b and p* of Taft et al.(1983). [on SciFinder (R)]
