Abstract
The development of recombinant DNA technology has allowed the study of the molecular pathology of inherited diseases in man. Two main molecular approaches are employed: direct study for detection of molecular defects and indirect detection by linkage analysis, A variety of new technologies and their applications have provided a powerful new tool in the diagnosis of inherited diseases. © 1991 IUPAC
