Surgery in cerebral palsy can be very rewarding. The operations which have stood the test of time are few and simple. The surgeon in this field must work in close cooperation with his colleagues of other disciplines who were also treating the child if disasters are to be avoided. Far more time will be spent in observation, assessment and postoperative rehabilitation of the child than in the operating theatre. The quality and accuracy of the former will largely determine the success of the latter.
