Abstract
This paper presents a methodology to quantify the stored heat in a steel ladle in a Steelmaking Shop in order to calculate the heat input required by the drying and heating process by using a natural gas heater. The current situation is mathematically modeled in order to obtain the combustion energy balance. Through finite element modeling in transient state it is possible to obtain the thermal profile, measure process losses and propose adjustments to the drying and heating curves.
