Abstract

Three distinct and convergent themes will be examined in this essay. The first one is clearly proactive. The Academic Performance and International Comparisons Project was initially presented, and its foundations were outlined, in a recently published collective work, with the contributions of researchers and scholars from USP, Unicamp and Unesp. The second theme addresses the changing environs of universities and the challenges arising from this transformations. The third theme has a reactive approach, since it opposes a cogitated (and unclear) de-characterization of the public university and its model of higher education and research.
