Abstract

Hobbs et al explore the working practices, occupational culture, regulation and training of bouncers within the context of the burgeoning nighttime leisure economies of Britain's post-industrial towns and cities. The authors argue that within these urban spaces, mass intoxication, aggressive hedonism and disorder have become routine, and private security operators have developed their own informal techniques of containment.
