Abstract

The paper is concerned with a second‐moment closure for the Reynolds‐averaged Navier‐Stokes equations which relies on the anisotropy invariant theory. It is shown how the anisotropy invariant map can be used to derive reasonable closure assumptions for turbulent flows. Furthermore, a first highly encouraging application for an inhomogeneous flow is discussed. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
