Population and environment

Abstract

This chapter attempts to assess the complex relationship between population growth and environmental change and points out some of the many conflicts and contradictions involved in this important environmental issue. The chapter begins with a general discussion of global population trends and a review of the main schools of thought, neo- and anti-Malthusian, which have contributed to the debate on the relationship between population and the environment. It then focuses on the linkages between population and the environment in two specific countries, Kenya and the UK. -from Authors
