Abstract

Geography is a practical and useful subject as shown by the contract work performed by geographers and by its contributions to the curriculum. Change is constantly occurring in geography in both its subject matter and theories. Changes giving rise to generalisation are illustrated in mining geography. Changes in both the spatial distribution of industry and in the explanations of industrial location are then described, giving rise to challenges to geographers to improve their effectiveness. -Author
