Abstract

In this article, I record experiments with ChatGPT to write code for AVL trees, a standard and reasonable sized assignment typically found during the second year in a CS curriculum. I show that it is cumbersome to elicit code that satisfies standard style guidelines. I conclude that a good textbook may be a more efficient way to develop code.
