Cambios en la industria y en el paisaje vitivinícola de la Denominación de Origen de Cigales (Castilla y León, España)

Abstract

The target of this investigation consists of analyzing the transformations that took place in the industry and in the wine scenery of the Guarantee of origin Cigales, one of those of major importance in Castile and León. In order to carry out this task different statistical sources have been used, which have made it possible to make a historical recreation of the surface cultivated in the last twenty years in this region, as well as interviewing wine growers and visiting the wineries. The results that have been obtained confirm a series of important changes in the territory that have contributed to energize a rural area that was languishing economically and socially through the increase of the surface of vineyard and the appearance of big industrial wineries leading to the creation of a more diversified economic textile with new activities extolling the wine industry as a key reference in this territory.
