Abstract

A synthetic review of different aspects of metadata studies as well as tendencies of these studies are purpose of the article. These studies are continuous and need the integration as well as interdisciplinary way of thinking. Information on metadata is presented as follows: the role of metadata in society, the model of metadata, metadata and stages of a statistical survey, standardisation in metadata, different views of metadata (metadata and domain databases, metadata and improving statistical information quality).
