Abstract

We present a selection of obstetrical care quality indicators, obtained through a diligent international review of those used by public, private and non-profit organizations that seek to improve medical care practice in the maternity wards. The comparison between these indicators standards and those from the Maternity Department of the Hospital Clínico de la Universidad de Chile in the year 2004 is shown, along with the justification of their selection. We outline the future work by techniques that allow the improvement of indicators, through "improvement odds" and/or "monitoring systems".
