Abstract

As fossil energy sources have been limited, renewable energy sources are now being explored. The wind energy is potential in the coastal area of Indonesia such as Nias island. There is only 0.5% of the potential energy sources in this area has been used. This article studies the wind energy prospect and simulates the implementation of maximum power point tracking based on perturb and observe method for permanent magnet synchronous generator of wind energy converter. Study shows that the method is able to enhance output power of wind energy generator about 7.22 % in average with shorter tracking time of 0.67 s.
