Abstract
In the emergency medical rescue service, injuries to the spine are the trauma sequelae that most often go undetected. Prevention of the usually deleterious results of secondary injury to the spinal cord resulting from inappropriate rescue measures makes high demands on the emergency physician and the rescue team. It is essential to include the possibility or such injuries in the early diagnostic considerations. In addition to securing vital functions, appropriate bedding of the patient and transport are of overriding importance.
