Abstract

The adsorption behaviour of an azodye Methylene Blue (MB) over aluminum oxide nano particles (AONP) generated by sol-gel method has been studied to investigate the physicochemical process involved andexplore the potential use of AONP in wastewater treatment. The variables incorporated in the present study are concentration of dye, dosage of adsorbentand contact time. The characterizations of AONPs were carried out using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy Dispersive Analysis of X-rays (EDAX) and Raman spectroscopy. SEM image showed the distribution pattern of nanoparticles. FTIR spectra revealed thatfunctional groups (O-Al-O) are present. Raman spectra showed the crystalline nature of nanoparticles. Averagesize of Al 2 O 3 nanoparticle from XRD peak was found to be 25 nm having rhombohedral structure. Chemical composition of AONPs was confirmed from EDAXspectroscopy measurement. The smaller dosage of AONP was tested for the photocatalytic degradation.
