Abstract

The article intends to clear up the "contraditory" presence of slave labour in the projects of social reform, wich was proposed by the french fourerist engeneer Henri-AugusteMilet (1840-1880), in order to resolve the sugar industry crisis in Brazil. In this purpose, it searchs references in differents liberal projects formulated between XVI and XIX centuries, particularly the original arguments that linked utopia, science, politics and moral philosophy.
