Information architecture: Exploratory search in different information architectures

Abstract

The article provides information about exploratory search systems in the U.S. It states that exploratory search systems, compared to mainstream web search engines, reflect more carefully on the presentation of search results. These systems are devoted to satisfying users' information needs by enabling grouping of results. Moreover, the four major grouping strategies of these systems which are the hierarchical classification, faceted categorization, clustering and social tagging had given birth to four different information architectures and each of them bears advantages and disadvantages.
