Abstract

Acoustic emission is any sound produced by any object undergoing some changes. However, not all acoustic emission is audible since some materials emit sound waves at frequencies far beyond hearing range. The detection and analysis of such waves as well as their sources have spawned the use of AE as a method of nondestructive testing (NDT). In this paper, the procedures that must be followed when conducting AE testing and the standards governing AE are described.
