Abstract

Some similarity solutions are presented for velocity and temperature profiles within the thin film of fluid that forms between a moving hot interface and a melting solid. The use of dimensionless variables brings out the role of various dimensionless groups, in particular when a shear and temperature-dependent viscous fluid is considered. A simplified heuristic method of solution of the full problem for the case of plasticating extruders is discussed. © 1976.
