Abstract

Lack of knowledge both theoretically and practically regarding the benefits, functions and how to make organic fertilizers makes most residents of Argopeni Village, Sumber Rejo District, Tanggamus Regency use inorganic fertilizers or chemical fertilizers as the main ingredient to increase their agricultural yields. Communities/farmers do not really understand that in the long run the use of chemical fertilizers will scavenge nutrients and various important minerals in the soil, causing the soil to become infertile and in the end this will impact on minimal crop yields and even cause crop failure. On the other hand, the large amount of cow manure that has accumulated in the yard of the cattle owner has resulted in a foul odor which is disturbing to the surrounding environment. Based on these problems, the purpose of this service is to conduct counseling and practice on how to make organic fertilizer from cow dung using additional materials such as bio-organic, EM-4, and organic materials that are around the community. This devotional activity takes about 1 week. Starting from the planning stage, the socialization stage, ensuring the materials are available in the environment and the deposition stage to produce organic fertilizer. As a result, people are starting to become aware of the benefits of organic fertilizers and the dangers of chemical fertilizers. In addition, residents began to know that the use of organic fertilizers was more cost-effective and became interested in using cow manure as a soil fertilizer medium to replace chemical fertilizers.
