Abstract
The microstructure was studied after short- and long-time exposure of Inconel 617 at high temperature (1000 degree C). The major phases present in the alloy after exposure were M//2//3C//2 and M//6C. The precipitates were identified as M//2//3C//6, M//6C, Ti(C, N), gamma prime and molybdenum carbides by X-ray diffractometry. The small amount of the gamma prime is considered to be cooling gamma prime. The composition of M//2//3C//6 and M//6C was determined with EPMA to be Cr//2//1Mo//2C//6 and Mo//3Cr//2(Ni, Co)//1C, respectively.
