Abstract
In the article, the author expresses his opinion on the trade unions in Europe and the European integration project. He states that the negative referendum in France and the Netherlands on a treaty to establish a constitution for Europe in 2005 raises the questions whether the union members supports the European Union (EU) integration. He states that it is doubtful whether the benefits of an enlarged market be realized without a decline in Western European labor standards.
