Abstract

The kinetic study of hydrolysis of succinimide has been done in highly alkaline medium. The hydrolysis follows an irreversible first-order consecutive reaction path of the type A→B→ C where k1 and k2 are the pseudo-first-orcler rate constants for reaction A → B and B → C, respectively. The variation of k1 and k2 with alkali concentration was found to be in agreement with equations k1(obsd) = B1 + B2[OH-] and l/k2(obsd) = C1 + C2/[OH-] where B1, B2, C1, and C2 are the arbitrary constants. © 1975, American Chemical Society.
