Abstract
Titanium Oxide/Silicon Oxide (TiO2/SiO2) systems were obtained by anchoring TiO2 in SiO2. The TiO2 photocatalyst was obtained by alcoholysis of TiCl4with 2-propanol and subsequent crystallization under autogenous pressure at 200 °C, excluding calcination steps at high temperatures. SiO2/TiCl4at different ratios were used to determine their influence on stability properties and photoactivity of TiO2/SiO2systems. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photodegradation of methanol in gaseous phase. The TiO2 did crystallize as anatase phase or as a mixture rutile/anatase, depending on the initial SiO2/TiCl4 ratio. The results showed that composite materials with high crystalinity of TiO 2 are produced. It was also observed that there is a strong relationship between the photocatalytic activity and physicochemical properties and of these with the initial compositions used for the synthesis.
