Sistema corporativo de produção de uma empresa da indústria automotiva

Abstract

The goal of this article is to enumerate and to describe the main components of the GMS (Global Manufacturing System) that was applied to General Motors of Brazil (GMB). The research question was: how is the GMB corporate manufacturing system formed and struc- tured? The research method was the Case Study. The literature review includes issues such as CPS (Corporate Production Systems) and some productive systems of the major car assemblers in the world. The Case Study presents five constructs of the productive system of General Motors of Brazil, applied in the Gravataí plant, that are: people commitment; standardization; built-in-quality; short lead time and continuous improvement, which are supported in thirty-three management elements. The main finding of this research is that the production system, used at the General Motors plant in Gravatai, was built from the perspective of the company’s own needs with features also observed in the Toyota Produc- tion System (TPS).
