Investigation of Individuals' Preparedness for Disasters in Disaster Resilience: Erzincan Province Example

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the preparedness level of individuals against disasters in disaster resilience and to determine various variables that affect this situation. It is a descriptive study. The research was carried out with 384 people living in Erzincan Province between 15 December 2021 and 15 January 2022 and who agreed to participate in the research. Data were collected electronically via Google Form using the 'Disaster Preparedness Scale'. Frequency, Mann Whitney u and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to evaluate the data using SPSS program. 44% of the individuals were between the ages of 18-24, 63.3% were female, 49.2% were single, 31.5% had a bachelor's degree, 79.7% had a medium level of economic status, 35.9% had more It was determined that they had never experienced a disaster before and 53.6% of them had not received training on disasters. The mean disaster readiness score of the individuals was determined as 31.83±4.89. As a result, it was determined that the disaster preparedness levels of the individuals participating in the study were at a moderate level. In addition, it was determined that age, marital status, educational status and receiving education about disasters affect the level of disaster preparedness. In order to increase the preparedness level of individuals against disasters and consequently to build disaster resilience, it is recommended that a disaster education focusing especially on the young population be carried out regularly.
