Abstract

This research carries out a detailed study on the cognitive mechanism for translation of metaphors, which involves dual phases of comprehension and reproduction. Recognized as the basis of appropriate rendering, a proper comprehension of the target metaphor is highly appreciated. Moreover, there are various factors in the comprehension of metaphor, namely, the semantic discrepancy, in the discerning of sense, cultural differences, individual characteristics in image conjuring, and the role of context. On the other hand, in the phase of reproduction, due consideration shall be taken to the concern of style. © 2013 ACADEMY PUBLISHER Manufactured in Finland.
