Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to develop a scale for metaverse which is one of the most popular topics recently. Material and Method: During the development of the Metaverse scale, a trial form consisting of 26 items was created by receiving expert opinion to ensure content validity. In the next stage, this form was applied to 593 university students with an explanatory note describing for what purpose the trial form would be used. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 22 and SPSS AMOS 24 software. In line with the data obtained, first “Explanatory Factor Analysis” (EFA) was performed and construct validity of the scale was tested. In order to test the construct validity of the items, “Confirmatory Factor Analysis” (CFA) was performed. Results: As a result of EFA, 15 items and four factors (technology, digitalization, social and lifestyle) was established. As a result of EFA, it was seen that these four factors corresponded 55,17% of the explained variance. To test the construct validity of the items With CFA, it was observed that goodness of fit indices (CMIN/df, RMSEA; GFI, CFI and SRMR) were within the values as they were supposed to be. As a result of EFA and CFA, the construct and item validity of the metaverse scale with 15 items and four factors (technology, digitalization, social and lifestyle) was confirmed. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient, the indicator for internal consistency of the entire 15-items scale, was found as .813. Conclussions: As a result of analysis, it was seen that metaverse scale was effective and reliable. In this sense, it is thought that the scale developed to be an effective data collection tools in terms of metaverse concept.
