Abstract

Cyberattacks are understood as a human behavior deployed for nefarious and malicious purposes. The attacker's motives engulf various emotions and feelings of hate, revenge, self-gratification, and greed. Cyberpsychologists and psychologists have begun developing personality profiles of those already convicted of cybercrimes throughout the world, to begin assessing and understanding the motives driving individuals, groups, or organizations to engage in this activity. This chapter will help you learn key cyberattack methods, including brute force, communication interception, denial of service, and man-in- the-middle. This chapter also enables you to understand the human behavior that motives each type of cyberattack. Plus, you will comprehend the role cyberpsychology plays in deterring cyberattacks. After all, cyberpsychologists are partnering with psychologists and forensic psychologists to improve research to improve outcomes of defense that help decrease the number of cybercrime incidences. This research will help you gain knowledge regarding how to effectively secure your connection to the Internet through browser activities, and help you understand how easy attackers implement attack methods that can go unnoticed for long periods of time. Thus, cyberpsychology can be instrumental in helping improve your human behavior as it relates to technology tool usage and security.
