Abstract

Presents an obituary for botanist Santiago Castroviejo Bolibar (1946-2009), stating that he was the doyen of plant systematics and descriptive taxonomy. Although he will be remembered for his involvement with the Iberian flora, he also undertook field and collection trips in South Africa, collecting specimens of Asteraceae, Ericaceae, Fabaceae and Restionaceae for the herbarium in Madrid
