Abstract
It is important for dental practitioners to have a basic knowledge of the more common metabolic disorders as some may impact on the practice of dentistry. Many of these disorders do not have overt clinical signs. Taking a thorough medical history and where necessary, liaising with the patient's physician, is particularly important. © British Dental Journal 2010.
