Abstract

A prototype three-color display system, based on microcavities containing conjugated polymers is presented. Characterization of emission showed that the microcavities were able to select different saturated emission colors out of the broad emission of the polymer. However, at viewing angles greater than 30°, significant changes in the cavity emission color were observed, principally due to the shift in reflectance of the cavity's dielectric mirror. A novel system is presented that significantly minimizes this color change.
