Abstract

Rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) are environmental organisms capable of causing a wide spectrum of diseases. We identified 116 cancer patients with RGM. Mycobacterium mucogenicum was the leading cause of disease. Removal of the catheter correlated with significant decrease in the bacteremia relapse rate (P =. 007). A median duration of 4 weeks of therapy produced a good outcome. © 2012 The Author 2012. Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
