Abstract

Enabling individuals and communities to improve and maintain their physical, mental and spiritual well-being is at the heart of health promotion. The Pan American Health Organisation strives to foster this proactive approach by presenting a selection of the most significant papers on the subject. These studies have made a lasting impact on the traditional approach to disease and attest to the belief that public health requires a holistic point of view, rather than one limited to disease prevention and control.
