Exploring the Factors Affecting Labour Market Participation for Individuals with Cerebral Palsy: A Scoping Review

Abstract

This scoping review aims to examine existing literature to identify the factors affecting labour market participation for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP). The review follows the scoping study method by Arksey and O’Malley (2005), which outlines five stages. It provides an overview of 24 articles, identifies research gaps, and proposes suggestions for future research. Existing literature suggests a low employment rate for individuals with CP. Despite this, a research gap exists concerning the factors influencing their labour market participation. The literature primarily focuses on factors concerning individuals with CP themselves, such as the severity of CP, education, gender, and age. The review highlights the need for future research to adopt a comprehensive labour market model. This research should focus on the individual as well as their context to improve labour market participation for individuals with CP.
