Abstract

Twenty-one cases of fracture of the neck of the femur in children were studied. 81 per cent of them were of the transcervical and cervicotrochanteric variety. Undisplaced fractures were treated by spica plaster and intertrochanteric fractures were treated by closed reduction and plaster. The remaining 15 cases were treated by reduction, internal fixation and spica cast. In 4 cases of old fractures this was combined with osteotomy. Seventy-six per cent of all these cases showed satisfactory results. Avascular necrosis (33 per cent), coxa vara (22 per cent), non-union (11 per cent) and premature epiphyseal fusion were the complications seen.
