Abstract
The changing composition and diversity of international investors, e.g., novel ownership types (including state-backed, private equity) and countries of origin, has left policymakers and academic advisers lagging behind in the race to design measures to fulfil the world’s urgent development needs. Social (e.g., pro-inclusion of marginalized or excluded groups) and environmental priorities have joined conventional economic development objectives, creating a demand for multidisciplinary research that is multidimensional in its recommendations. To meet this, the Global Academic Policy Research Network on Investment for Development was launched, with an ambitious agenda, during the 2014 World Investment Forum (WIF) at UNCTAD, in Geneva.
