Abstract

Although men are not traditionally cognized for performing caregiving tasks, about 16 million men rise to the challenge of providing care to a relative. These husbands, brothers, sons, sons-in-law, partners, friends, and neighbors are joining, either by choice or necessity, the army of family caregivers providing care across the country. This presentation will spotlight AARP’s leadership in the area of men and caregiving. It will highlight the impact of caregiving within and among diverse male family caregivers. It will also provide an overview and examples of AARP’s follow up work to promote awareness of and among these caregivers, including media outreach and resource development.
