Abstract
A variety of self-expandable stents are available for use within the gastrointestinal tract and biliary system. Nearly all of these are approved for management of malignant disease. Placement of expandable stents for benign conditions is becoming more common; however, improvements in stent designs are needed to prevent migration while maintaining removability. © 2007 AGA Institute.
