The article focuses on the models of oversight of the law enforcement in the U.S., its benefits and essential elements, as well as the work done by the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE). It says that there are between two and four models of civilian oversight, in which the basic forms of oversight include investigative, boards and commissions, and auditor/monitor agencies. It states that the oversight of correctional institutions have in common with the oversight of law enforcement, in which law enforcement officers and correctional officers holds enforcement authority. Furthermore, NACOLE provides support to oversight practitioners in the U.S. and it improve the policing and police accountability.
