Elogio de la transgresión: La combinación de lo fantástico y el humor en la Torre De Los Siete Jorobados (1944), De Edgar Neville

Abstract

La torre de los siete jorobados, novel by Emilio Carrere, was taken to cinema in the film of the same name by Edgar Neville in 1944, which constituted a real innovation in the poor cinematographic panorama of Spanish autarchy, due to its risky conceptual approach to plot and aesthetics, and to its closeness to fantastic, expressionist, black and sketchy postulates. This text studies the fantastic in Neville's film, and demonstrates how the inherent humour of his entire filmography blends perfectly with this genre in La torre de los siete jorobados. This analysis is carried out with the study in the film of four concepts that David Roas defined as essential in the fantastic genre: reality, the impossi1ble, fear and language.
