Update on diagnosing and treating ascending placentitis in horses

Abstract

Background: Ascending placentitis is a relatively uncommon condition in horses; however, it can have significant consequences on the health of a pregnancy. If undiagnosed the condition commonly results in abortion which may come with a significant emotional and economic burden to horse breeders. Aim of the article: This article focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of ascending bacterial placentitis, bringing readers up to date with recent advances in the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of clinical cases.
