Abstract

The Limon earthquake of 21, April, 1991 had a impact on organisms of the intertidal zone. Shallow subtidal, and coral reefs. All exposed organisms because of the uplift died shortly afterwards. Al the coral reef at Cahuita National Park corals were broken, crevasses were found in the reef structure and slumping of the reef from was observed. Recovery of the reef lagoon at Punta Cahuita has been recorded, as well as recruitment of corals in the reefs. Uplifted reefs indicate that what was experienced during the Limon earthquake has been going on for a long time.
