Abstract
The author presents the method used to observe infants at home as it was developed by Esther Bick and proposes a certain number of reference points: • from a historical standpoint where infant observation is seen in relationship to the evolution of ideas in child psychoanalysis; • from the present situation with its filiations as well as the various modes made possible through this training; • by defining the essential points in the method with respect to its objectives; • by stating the essential theoretical contributions made by Esther Bick; • by presenting a method of classifying the different applications of this method in the areas of treatment, prevention and research.
