Abstract

In traditional wide‐field microscopy, specimens are often stained to make certain object details visible. There are, however, circumstances under which such a procedure is either impossible or not desired. This is where more sophisticated contrasting techniques enter the scene. Probably the oldest of these is darkfield microscopy.
